What Is a DMV Abstract?
Understanding a DMV Abstract or Court Abstract
If you do not show up in court for a traffic ticket, more than likely the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) will suspend your driving privileges for a Failure to Appear (FTA).
Before April 6, 2015, the most effective way to remove a Failure to Appear on your license was with a DMV Abstract.
Now Getting Your License Back Is Harder
Basically, a DMV Abstract was an email coming from the traffic court to the DMV informing that you are taking care of the ticket. Consequently, the DMV would remove the Failure to Appear or Hold on your suspended license. With that removal, you had the opportunity to get your license back.
